Admissions Process
Is there an application deadline?
Our admissions deadline for September admission is May 1 each year. Applications received after this date are considered “late applications”. Depending on circumstances, late applications can leave us with insufficient time to complete the admissions process prior to the September “start of school” date. Families should be prepared for delayed start of school and are advised to have alternative schooling arrangements in case of delay or denial for any reason.
If you apply in the summer (July or August) please be aware that the staff and committee responsible for admissions are away for the summer. Your application will not be seen and responded to until late summer. This can cause some delays in admissions process and start date and families are advised to be prepared for this by having alternative schooling plans in place.
Do I have to be a part of a church to attend?
BVCS, like many independent schools, has an admissions policy that seeks to establish some foundational unity between a family and the school. This is one reason that BVCS actively encourages families to be a part of a local Christian church. However, we also realize that each family is unique. If the following statements are resonant with your family, we encourage you to apply.
- I/we accept the Bible as the infallible Word of God.
- At least one parent in this family is a born-again/professing Christian.
- Our family is (or will be) actively involved in a Bible-based Christian church.
- Our family desires a distinctively Biblical Christian Education and is committed to working with other families in “training up our children in the way they should go.”
- Our family is prepared to financially commit itself to the costs of operating the Bulkley Valley Christian School.
- All children in our family, during their time of attendance, will reside with at least one Christian parent or legal guardian.
- We, the parents and the children who desire to enrol, are Canadian Citizens, have Permanent Resident Status or are living here on a valid work or study permit.
Is there financial assistance available?
BVCS does operate a tuition assistance program but this offered judiciously and through a thorough process. As a matter of policy, tuition assistance is not available to a family in their first year at BVCS.
Step 1: Inquire (Book a Visit or a Phone Call)
The first step is getting your questions answered. We hope that this website serves as a resource to answer your initial queries, and invite you to find out more about our approach to education, what we offer you and your kids, and what our community is like. From there, we’d love to have you come by for a visit and a tour. Nothing will give you a better understanding of our school than experiencing it in person! We can answer your questions, meet some teachers and principles, and tour our building.
Step 2: Application
Once you’ve come for a visit, we invite you to fill out and submit an application. Download, print, and return it to our office and we’ll move on to scheduling an interview.
Step 3: Interview and Student Assessment
Our Admissions Interview will cover our Admissions Policy—in which we ensure incoming families are aware of and align with our school’s underlying philosophy, assessing your child’s educational needs and grade placements, and answering any of your remaining questions.
Step 4: Offer of Admission
Offers of Admission are sent once the Application process has been completed in full. Acceptance is based on a number of factors, including our ability to meet your child’s educational needs, class limits, and alignment with our school society’s underlying philosophy.
Step 5: Acceptance
To formally accept an Offer of Admissions, we require the completion of a few forms that we’ll send to you.
Step 6: Orientation
We’re looking forward to welcoming your family to Bulkley Valley Christian School! New families are invited to attend an orientation evening typically held in October. Here you’ll learn more about how our school functions and how you can become a part of it. New families will be invited by their children’s teacher(s) to be oriented to the classroom before the school year begins. Students will meet teachers and tour the building.
Step 7: Get connected!
One of the best ways to stay connected with the school and all your resources is through the MyBVCS App. It has practical uses for you as a parent, as well as for any of your children who might be using their own devices for scheduling, assignments, news, and collaborating on group projects. Other ways to get and stay connected are by signing up for our email newsletter and finding us on Facebook and Instagram.
