On December 29, 2021, John Franken met his Saviour face-to-face after a battle with renal cancer.
John served for many years at Bulkley Valley Christian School as a much-loved member of our teaching staff. He also served as an administrator, computer technician and maintenance supervisor. John served on committees and, thanks to his eye for detail, made BVCS facilities shine.
John loved his wife Sandi with a deep devotion. He expressed his love for his Lord through his faithful and multi-faceted involvement in his church, his deep care for God’s creation (mountain bluebird nesting boxes, A Rocha…and the list goes on), and his mentorship of others. He invested in friendships and people. He took his roles at school seriously and loved to laugh. When he retired as our maintenance (building and grounds) caretaker, he left us with a detailed binder (complete with CD) full of notes about almost every aspect of facility maintenance here. It spoke to his care for BVCS and his love for organization.
John and Sandi left BVCS at the end of the 2020 school year to move to Abbotsford. They returned to BVCS for a brief visit to BVCS early in the 2021 school year, and John intimated at that time that it would be his last trip here.
We are deeply grateful to God for this life well-lived, however flawed, in the pattern and footsteps of Jesus Christ.
