On Thursday afternoon (June 13) our Emergency Medical Response class will be taking part in a mock emergency scenario in the field at BVCS.

In the simulation, students in the class will be presented with a simulated scenario that involves the need for “medical care.” Students in Grade 8-12 will serve as actors in the scenario by playing different roles. We will be asking for student volunteers to play more intense roles, including some who will be asked to be “seriously injured victims” in the scenario.

This simulation does NOT involve elementary school students.

Emergency services will be on scene for this day. Expect to see RCMP, BC Ambulance, and Smithers Fire Department and other professionals at BVCS on Thursday for this simulated exercise. Members of BC Ambulance, the fire department, and the RCMP will be helping us with the scenario and professionals will help students (actors and the members of the EMR class) debrief after the scenario.

While we expect high school students to participate in this activity, we also recognize that the intensity of the scenario may be too much for some students. Parents who wish their child to not participate can let the office know in the next couple of days and we will provide an alternative activity.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Steenhof or Mr. Anderson.
