The Bulkley Valley Christian School community mourns the death of Hank DeJong, husband of Jenny and father to Peter, David, Dan and Ben.
On Saturday morning, Jenny wrote: “Hank went home peacefully to be with Jesus and his many friends and family who have gone before. At 5:45 AM on October 15, 2022, after a month-long struggle with an aggressive cancer, he left his earthly body behind and has gone ahead of us to his eternal home with Christ.”
For years, Hank and Jenny contributed to the health and legacy of Bulkley Valley Christian School as parents, prayers and faithful supporters. During their tenure as parents, Jenny and Hank were involved in the school society, classrooms and school events. Their involvement continued beyond their years as parents as they continued to participate in school fundraisers, concerts and events. Their deep desire for seeing children and young people shaped as Christ-followers was reflected in their prayer and participation in the mission of BVCS.
Hank will be remembered by the many lives he touched in Christ’s name. Hank possessed strength in his gentleness and wisdom. Together Hank and Jenny cared for children, people with special needs, tough cases and the poor. They offered hospitality in Jesus’ name to “the least of these.” Hank and Jenny modelled daily dependence on Jesus and a quickness to turn to him in prayer. Hank’s firm eternal hope was not in these works of service, however…his firm eternal hope was rooted in Jesus Christ.
While we grieve this loss, particularly for his close friends and family, we also rejoice that Hank is welcomed into God’s arms because of Jesus’ righteousness.
Memorial service for Hank will be held on Saturday, 29 October at 2 pm at MountainView Assembly. Come and rejoice with the family over a life well-lived.
