Following recent changes to the Society Membership Policy, BVCS is updating our procedures for membership renewals and new applications. These changes were announced at our spring 2025 Society Meeting. A summary of the procedural changes:
- All memberships will expire on September 15 of each year, regardless of when they began.
- Parents and donors do not ‘automatically’ become members of the society. While this has never been the case, it was sometimes misunderstood to be. Application or renewal of society membership is now made more intentional and separate from the admissions process.
- We will send out renewal notices to all current members in August. Renewals to be completed by September 15 for the new school year. Renewal forms include signifying agreement with section 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 of the BVCS constitution and paying a $75 membership fee per member (automatically deducted from first tuition payment for current parents).
- Memberships that are not renewed by September 15 will enter a grace period and members will be alerted that their membership is about to expire. Any memberships not renewed by the next regularly scheduled AGM (this year October 20) will be considered “expired.” Re-admission to the society would be via a new application.
- New applications for membership may be made at any time. Applicants will not be eligible for membership until one year after they’ve applied. Applicants cannot become eligible unless they have attended at least one society membership meeting (AGM) during their year as an applicant and provided a pastoral reference.
The above is a summary of the policy, not the policy itself. The membership policy is available upon request from the school office.
These changes strengthen our society governance and are intended to provide better clarity to our school and society about the importance, value and process of membership. The changes also seek to create better awareness of our mission for Christian education and how this mission is supported through (in particular) our Foundational Statements of Faith (1.1), our Basis and Principles for Education (1.2) and our Educational Creed (1.3).
These changes do not affect our admissions or enrolment criteria.
Members can expect to receive a Society Membership Renewal form in the month prior to September 15.
