With winter approaching, BVCS is looking for snow clearing help. This is paid work, with responsibilities for sidewalks and walkways only. Perfect work for mature high school students, retirees or other community members.
Ideally, this would be taken by a group of retirees. With a big enough group the responsibilities and hours could be coordinated and shared. This covers absences and lightens the collective load.
- the employee(s) or group will be independently responsible to monitor snow levels and make decisions about when (how often) and how (shovel and/or equipment) the sidewalks should be cleared. They will also ensure that walkways have been cleared of ice, using ice melt and traction grit.
- BVCS will supply the equipment (gas-powered snow blower, shovels, scoops) and supplies (concrete-safe snow melter and sand)
- The employee could also use their own equipment (quad/snowblower) instead of, or along with, our equipment. We can pay machine hours and fuel.
- clearing all paved walkways, sidewalks and paths that are paved (gravel pathway behind garden and gym are machine-cleared). This is not for clearing the parking lots or fire lanes (those are machine cleared by a contractor)
- applying snow melter and/or sand to entrances and walkways (BVCS supplies)
- applicants must be able-bodied, and comfortable with operating a walk-behind gas snow blower
- if student, you must be able to arrive and work here independently (without relying on a parent to get them here early mornings). You must also be comfortable with getting fuel, checking oil and refuelling the equipment. Helpful if you have a knack for operating gas-powered equipment.
- Most of this work will be early mornings. Start/end times depend on snowfall depth.
- clearing would need to be done prior to school on school days
- may involve weekend work including Saturdays (if there are weekend events such as sports) and occasional Sundays (when snowfall amounts warrant)
This is paid work. Hours will be submitted to the business administrator.
